Up and Running....Well Not Really!

I'm excited to start the new year and even more excited to start documenting my journey. Danny and I have plans to participate in as many events as possible this year. The problem is, as Danny referred to in his post, is that I had a 'calf blowout' a couple of weeks ago. That's the only way to describe it. I've had many cramps in my life and this is NOT a cramp. There's nothing subtle about it. I'll start jogging....and then about 50mtrs into my jog, I get a deep pain in my right calf. The only thing I can do right now is just rest it. Good thing is that it doesn't hurt when I'm on the bike.

Our first event in 2010 is the Calaveras Du on Feb. 21st. I'm not feeling too confident about it at this point since I can't run. Hopefully I'll be able to get in a solid month of training before the event. I ran in the Rock N Roll Marathon in November 2008....so I think I'll be ok if I slack a little on my running training. This just means more time will be spent on the bike. We have two rides planned for the weekend. Should be fun. BTW, check out my new MTB I bought for myself with cash I received for Christmas (thanks to my in-laws and my grandparents!!!).

With only 52 days until the Calaveras Duathlon, it's time to get the training going. Since Rick's 'calf blowout' two weeks ago, we haven't really done much. But hey, at least we're blogging! I'm trying to get back to my morning runs, but it's cold and I hate the treadmill! It's probably time to suck it up and put on the stretchy pants and run in the cold.
Hopefully this weekend will bring a couple of good bike rides and a nice hike with the family.
